Resolution No. 07-08 — Elder Protection Code

WHEREAS, The Stockbridge-Munsee Community, Band of Mohican Indians, is a federally recognized Indian tribe with inherent sovereign powers, and is governed by the Stockbridge-Munsee Tribal Council pursuant to the 1937 Constitution; and,

WHEREAS, The Stockbridge-Munsee Community has the authority under its constitution and its inherent rights as a sovereign nation to adopt and amend Ordinances; and,

WHEREAS, The Stockbridge-Munsee Community honors and respects its elders; and,

WHEREAS, The Stockbridge-Munsee Community has a long history of recognizing the importance of our elders; and,

WHEREAS, The Stockbridge-Munsee Community finds it is in the best interests of the elders and the Tribe to offer more protections from elder abuse.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Stockbridge-Munsee Tribal Council hereby adopts Chapter 66, the Elder Protection Code.
